The Windward Choral Society (WCS) has competed its performance-packed fifth year of existence! As compared with choruses on the island that have been singing for 40 years or more, this group might be considered still a fledgling chorus, but it has achieved a recognition throughout the island for its lively presentations of multi-cultural music in the native languages that brings the joy of singing to singers and audiences alike. It is evident that the chorus members enjoy what they do and convey that merriment to their audiences.
This spring’s concert entitled “For the Joy of Singing,” under the direction of Susan M. Duprey, describes perfectly how Ms. Duprey sets the tone for an enjoyable performance. Sharing the stage with the Ka‘anohiwaiānuenue Hula Studio dancers, this group provided a concert at Windward United Church of Christ to be praised and remembered by all who attended.
To wrap up their season, WCS joined forces with the Lehigh University Choral Arts, from Bethlehem, PA, under the direction of Dr. Steven Sametz, a chorus of four units that toured Oahu in May. This joint endeavor mimicked the Yale University convergence of last year for a SRO concert on the windward side.
WCS will begin its sixth season with its first rehearsal on August 27, at the Kailua United Methodist Church’s Holman Hall. Keep watching the website for additional information as the summer progresses!
To all who attended any of WCS performances, thank, and see you next time.
