The Windward Choral Society June concert repertoire is in place and includes a truly beautiful rendition of “Oh Danny Boy” by Frederic Weatherly. To celebrate this wonderful tune I want to share a slightly…um…different version. For some (truly unfathomable) reason, my father had a 45 rpm* single of this tune and would break it out from time to time to make his children roll on the floor laughing hysterically. The line with that high note (you know the one; “But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow”) is…well…you’ll see. I refuse to apologize for it.
Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys:
* Back in the stone age, there were “record players” that had three speeds. No, really, I wouldn’t make something like that up.
