First and foremost, it’s time to get busy! Spring will be sprung soon and open house is tomorrow. Y’all come and sing some more and feel free to drag a bass or tenor with you (kicking and screaming if need be, Dean has a roll of duct tape to subdue the unruly ones). If you’re bringing someone new, please pass them the rules as published last fall at this link.

Expanding a bit on rule #2, if you’ve sung in a Susie choir or sat in on a rehearsal of the Windward or Kona Music Societies, you’ve heard a lot of voices singing a lot of strange things during the always-bizarre “wacky warm-ups”. A truly incomplete list would include such gems as:

  • Chewing chewing chewing chewing gum
  • CAAAWWWWW!!! (Like a parrot falling into a barrel)
  • Next stop ZIPPY’s!
  • Unique New York Unique New York Unique New York Unique New York (repeat until a tongue transplant is needed, won’t take long)
  • The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog (apparently not just for typing class any more)

And you can’t forget “Oh, how I love to sing!”

Well, the Blogmeister thinks it’s time to up the vocabulary a bit. If Susie wants our faces to explode I think it’s time we added some new logs on the fire. I offer you the stuff-that-sounds-just-as-silly-as-the-stuff-we-already-do list, I DARE you to say them all out loud:

  • I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream (BUT…no “s” anywhere, the letter “s” is evil. So you get “I cream, you cream, we all cream for i cream” which is even sillier.)
  • The bottom of the butter bucket is the buttered bucket bottom.
  • Greek grapes Greek grapes Greek grapes Greek grapes
  • Keenly cleaning copper kettles. Keenly cleaning copper kettles. Keenly cleaning copper kettles. (I bet she uses that one…)

And my personal favorite from my misspent youth (and this is NOT the complete version…that would hurt too much):

  • When tweetle beetles battle with paddles in a puddle they call it a tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle (thank you, Dr. Seuss)

6:30 sharp tomorrow at Holman Hall!

(PS: please feel free to add any other potential warm-up nightmares in the comments section. Hehehe.)
